I am India

one among millions!!!

When you first held me in your hands, I did not know that I have great support holding me strong and secure.
There were lot of moments when I turned back and a glance of you standing there gave me strength to walk forward.
I always sensed your hand of blessing in all the decisions I made.
You made me feel proud when I mentioned to my friends that my honesty, will power and strength to face challenges come from my dad.
I still remember your patience with me when I was adamant and rude to you. Somewhere you believed that I can never go wrong.
As children, at times we gave you a lot of pain but you stood there rock steady, bailed us out of storm and put us back to safe shores.
Today when you are fighting with dreadful ailment, we are here to give you same support.
We believe that our dad, our hero will make it and once again will emerge as WINNER of LIFE.

Travel is one thing which I like as I get to see new places, meet new people and get a taste of their culture and way of living. Thanks to my job, it takes me places. Besides these business travels, I go on personal vacations too. I’ve made a list of the top ten places I would like to go to before I take leave from this world.
I choose these places because either I do not remember much of my experiences there, or because I have never been there but would like to see them.
1.     Mount Kailash, Himalayas (Manasarovar): This is one of my dream destinations. Not because it is expensive but because it needs lot of personal discipline and determination to complete the journey. The silver Himalayan range and eternal mount Kailash always attract me. This tops my list.
2.     Machhu Picchu, Peru: I got to know about this place from the movie Robot (Rajinikanth starrer). I was very amazed when I saw the picturization of a song at this place. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and is located 2300 meters about sea level. Definitely worth a visit.
3.     Leh-Ladakh, Kashmir, India: It is paradise on earth of my country. This place is crown of India. Very beautiful with lakes, apple gardens, flowers, festivals and many more. Though this place is a bit disturbed now, it is a must visit.
4.     Venice, Italy: City is connected with bridges over canals. This is what interests me. Have seen amazing pictures of Venice and got so attracted to this awesome place. Beautiful buildings on either side of canal and cute bridges connecting both sides. A perfect place for a vacation.
5.     Taj Mahal (on full moon night), Agra, India: One of the Seven Wonders of the World. Though I had been to Agra and had glimpse of Taj Mahal in day light, I never got chance to see in full moon light. “As sunsets, it gradually darkens and Taj Mahal vanishes in the darkness. But then moon gradually starts coming up and the whole profile of Taj Mahal gets clearer and clearer”, this is what I heard from a colleague. I don’t want to miss this experience.
6.     Galápagos Archipelago Islands: Being Genetics student, read a lot about this Darwin’s laboratory. The enchanting islands offer a wide variety of unusual creatures. The wonderful nature sets mind to peaceful mode. A place I am passionate about.
7.     Chichen Itza, Mexico: “World ends by 2012, is what Mayan calendar says”. Hmm..this statement made me search about Mayan Culture. Then, I read about this archeological site built by the Mayan Civilization. Every civilization has some unique and amazing things to know. I am sure the ruins at site also have lot to speak. This I will know only when I visit.
8.     Pyramids of Egypt: The enormous manmade structures talk a lot about the accuracy of workman ship, the way they are built, significance of these structures etc. The Nile River which created green valley across the desert is always worth visiting.
9.     Journey to Antarctica: I got interested into this after seeing lot of expedition programs on Nat Geo. Though expensive and takes time, would want to give it a try.
10.  Trip to Europe (Rome, Paris, France and Greece): Art and Architecture are the things of interest for me now. But when I visit I am sure will discover more things.
I am not sure when and in which order I will visit my top 10 places. But will definitely make it. India itself has lot of places to visit. So as and when I will get chance will visit my country thoroughly.
One of my friends suggested, “Don’t plan, just take your back pack and move on.”  An advice worth following J
So go ahead and try to get time off from these regular responsibilities, work load and other tensions. Our Planet has lot of variety in store for us.

“Every person’s memory is a literature”, it is true. When God has given us gift to forget lot of things, he has also given a way to keep few things close to heart. Since we cannot go back in life, we just cherish those moments and they bring smiles on our face.

I cannot remember much of my childhood except the warm and soft cookies my mom used to bring us after the school and before going for evening tutor classes…..my dad teaching us how to fly kites ………weekends when my mom cooked yummy chicken biryani/fish curry…… most unhappy Math classes (Algebra was king cobra for me)……..my brother teaching me bicycle……my silly sister, always grabbing things from me.

College dayyyyyyyyyz, for sure are lotttttttz of fun…..laughing hilariously without any reason…..bunking classes for a movie……birthday celebration in classrooms……depending on one intelligent person for notes…..one day picnic or excursions…….dozzing off reading those volumes of entrance exam books.......being last bencher is so fun….somehow managed to pass out :)

Memories are precious and so nice to rewind once in a while. Especially when away from home and got nothing to do after work :D

Before you go to bed, just rewind back for those sweet memories and carry that smile next day to work. It does wonders.

Btw, I am just loving my new blog skin :) :)

“Today is a beautiful, bright and delighted day.
Sun has entered Makar to intense the ray.
Crop harvested to cheer the smiles.
Kites are flying high to touch the happiness.
Tils are mangled with sweet to spread sweetness.
It is Time to enjoy the moment with full intensity”.

These are typical thoughts on the day of Sankranthi/Pongal.
But today common man thoughts are something different. The harvest festival which symbolizes prosperity and growth has left only empty granaries and spoilt crop. Raising prices eat into delicacies. This means that households have to either miss them or pay heavy prices to enjoy them. The traditional bull dances, haridas costume, huge rangoli are almost vanishing between the streets of metros and cities.
Inspite of all these, every year we all make sure to have the flavor of this festival at our home. We all hope to spend time with our family and friends by making a heap of camp fire in front of our homes on cold night, flying colorful kites, making delicious Pongal, rangoli at parking lot or ground near neighborhood etc.
Wishing everybody a very a happy and joyful Sankranthi.
Cheers,
Padma

It’s time to welcome New Year again. This is one occasion which everyone enjoys irrespective of caste, creed and age. Old friends, colleagues, relatives, cousins everybody plan to meet and spend time taking break from regular chores of life. Mega celebrations to small get together all happen during this time.
This New Year Eve is not just end of a year but end of a decade. For me, this is very significant decade and made me what I am today. Failures taught me lessons; disappointments made me strong, success made me responsible, good or bad situations made me cautious of path ahead. Got two great friends with whom my bonding has become life time.
Like this, all of you might have faced mixed situations during these 10 years and am sure you emerged as winners of the situation.
Leaving past behind, now we are all set to welcome 2011, start of new decade. So go ahead and party in your style.
A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR  2011 FOLKS!!!!!
Cheers,
Padma

Own house means a lot to all of us. Today we have many options in terms of architecture, style, interiors which enable us to build a dream home for ourselves.

For me, my home is everything. It is place for me to retreat and relax with family. I always had interest of interior decoration and this interest grew up more after I bought my house last year. I like ethnic.

Here are few tips based on my experience which might help in making your house a home:
  • Decide on the theme: Before you start decorating or buying things make sure you have your requirement clear. Consult with your family members and based on your taste, hobby and anything that reflects real you should be represented through your décor.

  • Lighten up the space: Natural sunlight is best source to light which gives lot of space to your room. Keep the windows open to let in fresh air and adequate sunlight. Make sure your house is well ventilated and uses day light efficiently.

  • Paint your room: Work on various combinations of colors you can choose for your house. For living room choose vibrant colors like orange, green, yellow etc. For bedroom go for subtle, calm colors. Kid’s room should be more vibrant and match their playful nature. Don’t hesitate to choose your favorite color and make sure every room reflects your needs and personality. Google is best source to get some ideas and inspiration.

  • Minimize furniture: Keep minimum furniture enabling easy movement and space around. Make sure your furniture matches or in contrast with wall colors, curtains etc. If you have chance to re-use any old furniture then try doing it.

  • Wall decoration: Go for some exotic wall décor with paintings, family photo gallery, ethnic wall pieces etc. This adds richness and elegance to otherwise boring walls.

  • Funishings: Curtains should match the furniture around. Any mismatch will damage the look. Bedspreads, Deewan cot covers etc should match with other interiors. They add more glamour to the room.

  • Miscellaneous:
    • If you want to have a show case at your home, then collect some good dolls and other ethnic wear which can enrich your taste. If you are travelling to any place on work or for vacation, buy something that is related to the place and bring them home to your showcase. This will definitely add to your taste of home décor.
    • Use of table runners, candle holders, wall clock, lighting, book shelves, wall units etc can add more to your dream home.

  • Fresh Flora: If you a have a patio/balcony then bring in some flower pots, bamboos etc to create sense of revival and rejuvenation. Try developing gardening skills in that little space you have.
So go ahead and do some home makeover. Create magic :) :)

Cheers,
Padma
