“Today is a beautiful, bright and delighted day.
Sun has entered Makar to intense the ray.
Crop harvested to cheer the smiles.
Kites are flying high to touch the happiness.
Tils are mangled with sweet to spread sweetness.
It is Time to enjoy the moment with full intensity”.
These are typical thoughts on the day of Sankranthi/Pongal. But today common man thoughts are something different. The harvest festival which symbolizes prosperity and growth has left only empty granaries and spoilt crop. Raising prices eat into delicacies. This means that households have to either miss them or pay heavy prices to enjoy them. The traditional bull dances, haridas costume, huge rangoli are almost vanishing between the streets of metros and cities.
Inspite of all these, every year we all make sure to have the flavor of this festival at our home. We all hope to spend time with our family and friends by making a heap of camp fire in front of our homes on cold night, flying colorful kites, making delicious Pongal, rangoli at parking lot or ground near neighborhood etc.
