I am India

one among millions!!!

It is last turn of the road. One lady walked in. She is tired, restless and looks like needs some rest now. As she sat, another lady walked with full enthusiasm. Now this young lady looked very fresh, enthusiastic, dressed in her best robe and looked like new bride.

She looked at older one and says, “Hi buddy!!! What’s the matter, you look so tired”. Old lady gives a helpless but a confident smile and replies, “Nothing, this road ends here and from now it’s new turn. Come sit here and see what people have go to think of road ahead”. Young lady agrees. Old one is 2008 and the young one is 2009. 2009 is very eager to know what people are thinking about her arrival.

Here comes one farmer’s family. Now very thought of villages bring in new life. Trees everywhere, fields with good yield, cows, natural food and pollution free atmosphere. But this family looks very dull and gloomy. This year it was either floods or no rains situation and the yield came down. For the little bit of yield they got, prices in market were not as per expectations. They are deeply in debts and next year they won’t have that piece of land also. This family is completely hopeless of next year. Young one just shrugged shoulders and said, “Okay, these farmers are always sufferers. Lets see further.” Old lady gave a smile and looked on.

Now enters an urban dwelling family. Husband is a government employee and wife is homemaker. Couple have two school going children. They seem to have everything but still no smiles on the face. This year husband got salary hike but the prices went up twice. He has to mortgage his wife’s jewellery to pay his children school donation. Not understanding how it goes further, the couple is discussing the expenses. There hope for next year is filled with worries. Seeing this, young lady got a bit worried but still with confident look said, “Offo!!! These middle class families have never ending worries. Lets see some high class people.” Old lady agreed.

A newly wed couple drove down the road in an expensive car. They looked hep. Hoping some grand plans, young lady curiously looked at them, she observed that they are sad. The guy became victim of cost cutting and lost his job while his wife’s salary has no hike this year. They are facing problems to pay their EMI for house and car. If this situation continues, they have to sell their apartment soon. Not knowing what to do and no confidence in coming days, they sat gloomy with no plans to celebrate.

Now, our young lady was completely shattered and as she looked she saw various things: terrorist attacks, economy melt down forcing people migrating to homeland from US, farmer deaths, unemployed youth etc.

She gave a worried look at 2008. Old lady with same smile and patting her back said, “Don’t worry dear, people tend to plan things based on their present situation. But conditions are not same always. The situations will change, it all needs is patience and these people will take care of it. We are TIME and our only duty is walk confidently with hope and fill that hope in everyone, rest is with the people how they handle. How much every sad they are, they will welcome you.” Saying this, she handed over the crown to young lady and 2009 is all set to come in.

Let’s welcome her with the same spirit.

So road ahead is Hope, Confidence and Patience. Sometimes life may hit us hard but we should not loose these three qualities and we will emerge as winners in any situation.

Happy New Year 2009

Day: Monday
Time: 7:00pm IST
Location: Hyderabad
Occurrence: Everyday

I looked at my watch and it was 6:45pm. Checked my calendar for any meetings, none, cool. I quickly finished the to-do list for next day and all set to go home. After hectic day of work, going home and relaxing is a good thought. So I quickly came down to the parking lot, started my vehicle and was on my way back. I came out of office, took one turn towards hi-tech city signal and suddenly I faced the most unwanted and necessary evil of my life, TRAFFIC!!!

As I took the turn, I saw a huge group of people competing with each other to get into a cab. This is a new business cab drivers have come up with, after IT cost cuttings. They stop cabs blocking the road and all employees come out like crazy to catch cab heading towards their location. In this hurry, they come onto the main road, as there is no cabstand. As I was making my way through the crowd, overheard somebody saying, “Ladki ko chalaana nahin aatha toh gaadi leethe kyun hain”. I gave a damn to that comment and went ahead.

I joined the main traffic. In spite of 4-clearly marked lanes on that recently widened road, all vehicles were going either on the line, overtaking one another rashly and moving ahead. Everyone is eager to go home but nobody understands that his or her anxiety is blocking the roads and causing more delay.

I kept going and now have to face one more thing, signal. To our bad luck, our gr8 R&B department, as part of road repairs have dug up the road and the width is reduced to half. This made things even worse, but no choice. We had a red signal so got to wait. Why can’t these R&B people, at one time lay quality road instead of repairing it every now and then and causing trouble? This is the facility we get in spite of paying taxes.

My thoughts were disturbed when somebody honked from behind. I looked through my rear view, it was a car and the person was trying to sneak into the small space beside me. Look at his desperateness, there is red signal and road ahead is jam-packed, where is he trying to go? His car had a MNC label on it. I am sure he must be holding some senior position in his company and would have definitely visited one or more other countries. But still lacks common sense.

Now another dynamic biker, want to join this way traffic from over a divider (here dividers are just an inch tall). This person looks educated and from a MNC too. But does not hesitate to break the rules.

Finally, signal turned green and traffic started moving. On my way back I came across many such incidents and at each signal it is different story. By the time I reach home it was 8:30pm.

There are many such people who are educated, intellectual, visited other countries, appreciate their infrastructure but never realize that they need to have same discipline here which will automatically place things in order. I feel like canning all of them and making them come in one lane. The one who can cane, traffic police is just watching and changing the signals :(

Not only me, many of us come across similar situations daily and we end up cribbing that traffic is bad. But who is making it bad? We ourselves are doing it. Everybody thinks what will happen if only I follow? This individual carelessness is creating massive damage.

At the end of the day we are the sufferers (remember ministers and VIP vehicles are given way by stopping us).

So even it is a small responsibility, do it with sincerity. This will make make a big difference and make our lives easier and peaceful.
