Location: Hyderabad
Occurrence: Everyday
I looked at my watch and it was 6:45pm. Checked my calendar for any meetings, none, cool. I quickly finished the to-do list for next day and all set to go home. After hectic day of work, going home and relaxing is a good thought. So I quickly came down to the parking lot, started my vehicle and was on my way back. I came out of office, took one turn towards hi-tech city signal and suddenly I faced the most unwanted and necessary evil of my life, TRAFFIC!!!
As I took the turn, I saw a huge group of people competing with each other to get into a cab. This is a new business cab drivers have come up with, after IT cost cuttings. They stop cabs blocking the road and all employees come out like crazy to catch cab heading towards their location. In this hurry, they come onto the main road, as there is no cabstand. As I was making my way through the crowd, overheard somebody saying, “Ladki ko chalaana nahin aatha toh gaadi leethe kyun hain”. I gave a damn to that comment and went ahead.
I joined the main traffic. In spite of 4-clearly marked lanes on that recently widened road, all vehicles were going either on the line, overtaking one another rashly and moving ahead. Everyone is eager to go home but nobody understands that his or her anxiety is blocking the roads and causing more delay.
I kept going and now have to face one more thing, signal. To our bad luck, our gr8 R&B department, as part of road repairs have dug up the road and the width is reduced to half. This made things even worse, but no choice. We had a red signal so got to wait. Why can’t these R&B people, at one time lay quality road instead of repairing it every now and then and causing trouble? This is the facility we get in spite of paying taxes.
My thoughts were disturbed when somebody honked from behind. I looked through my rear view, it was a car and the person was trying to sneak into the small space beside me. Look at his desperateness, there is red signal and road ahead is jam-packed, where is he trying to go? His car had a MNC label on it. I am sure he must be holding some senior position in his company and would have definitely visited one or more other countries. But still lacks common sense.
Now another dynamic biker, want to join this way traffic from over a divider (here dividers are just an inch tall). This person looks educated and from a MNC too. But does not hesitate to break the rules.
Finally, signal turned green and traffic started moving. On my way back I came across many such incidents and at each signal it is different story. By the time I reach home it was 8:30pm.
There are many such people who are educated, intellectual, visited other countries, appreciate their infrastructure but never realize that they need to have same discipline here which will automatically place things in order. I feel like canning all of them and making them come in one lane. The one who can cane, traffic police is just watching and changing the signals :(
Not only me, many of us come across similar situations daily and we end up cribbing that traffic is bad. But who is making it bad? We ourselves are doing it. Everybody thinks what will happen if only I follow? This individual carelessness is creating massive damage.
At the end of the day we are the sufferers (remember ministers and VIP vehicles are given way by stopping us).
So even it is a small responsibility, do it with sincerity. This will make make a big difference and make our lives easier and peaceful.
Keep following for more posts....C ya

Hey Padma,
Its true when these guys are in other countries, they follow all the rules present. But in ones own country who gives a damn; all is taken for granted.Wish everybody thought and did a bit for making the lives of others easier, things would be much different. I think educated guys needs to be a bit more decent... esp in Hyd..;-). I used to follow the same route; so I know what you talking.
Sony
Yeah Padma ..you are right if people dont have little sense to follow the traffic rules how can you expect the Nation to get into an organized growth. We have to learn these things from West, we cannot leave anything as unimportatnt.
Those images & words below speaks for itself. Good post.
