Feb 23rd, morning 6:45am IST: Curious moments started and I was watching the Oscar Award function. This award function never held my interest. Every year I just casually read about this in news paper or watch it during lunch in TV @ office cafetaria.
This time only thing that made me glued to the seat was A.R. Rahman’s nomination. I was eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of this melody man and wished he should make it. I think it was not only me but everyone of us had same hope. This man’s music is being enchanting us from years and his music have found place in our orkut/facebook video gallery.
In India, there are hundreds of films made every year in all languages. All these films have lot of efforts put by various techinicians and artists. They work hard to bring out their best. They believe maximum they can achieve is National Award for their talent. Oscars is only a dream. But this man made that dream come true. He proved that dedication, hard work and passion towards the work can make any big dream come true. He started as a keyboard player but his passion towards music, enthusiasm to do something different from main stream film music has created benchmarks. Today Red Carpet welcomed him to hold the Golden award- not one but two :)
I don’t know what is the Oscar factor in Slumdog Millionaire? What would have been its fate if it was directed as-is by any of our directors: Shankar, Mani Ratnam, Subhash Ghai etc? But through that movie ARR music has reached international platform.
No doubt, he has given his best compositions earlier compared to “Jai Ho” but for any light to spread miles, height is necessary and today Slumdog has given that elevation to his work. It is only a beginning for a new culture to get imbibed into international music. Globally everyone will realise this new culture in music and ARR will do his best as always to bring that culture.
Wishing him all the very best. He achieved so much yet very humble. His journey from Chennai to LA is definitely an inspiring one.
