I am India

one among millions!!!

It’s time to welcome New Year again. This is one occasion which everyone enjoys irrespective of caste, creed and age. Old friends, colleagues, relatives, cousins everybody plan to meet and spend time taking break from regular chores of life. Mega celebrations to small get together all happen during this time.
This New Year Eve is not just end of a year but end of a decade. For me, this is very significant decade and made me what I am today. Failures taught me lessons; disappointments made me strong, success made me responsible, good or bad situations made me cautious of path ahead. Got two great friends with whom my bonding has become life time.
Like this, all of you might have faced mixed situations during these 10 years and am sure you emerged as winners of the situation.
Leaving past behind, now we are all set to welcome 2011, start of new decade. So go ahead and party in your style.
A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR  2011 FOLKS!!!!!
Cheers,
Padma

Own house means a lot to all of us. Today we have many options in terms of architecture, style, interiors which enable us to build a dream home for ourselves.

For me, my home is everything. It is place for me to retreat and relax with family. I always had interest of interior decoration and this interest grew up more after I bought my house last year. I like ethnic.

Here are few tips based on my experience which might help in making your house a home:
  • Decide on the theme: Before you start decorating or buying things make sure you have your requirement clear. Consult with your family members and based on your taste, hobby and anything that reflects real you should be represented through your décor.

  • Lighten up the space: Natural sunlight is best source to light which gives lot of space to your room. Keep the windows open to let in fresh air and adequate sunlight. Make sure your house is well ventilated and uses day light efficiently.

  • Paint your room: Work on various combinations of colors you can choose for your house. For living room choose vibrant colors like orange, green, yellow etc. For bedroom go for subtle, calm colors. Kid’s room should be more vibrant and match their playful nature. Don’t hesitate to choose your favorite color and make sure every room reflects your needs and personality. Google is best source to get some ideas and inspiration.

  • Minimize furniture: Keep minimum furniture enabling easy movement and space around. Make sure your furniture matches or in contrast with wall colors, curtains etc. If you have chance to re-use any old furniture then try doing it.

  • Wall decoration: Go for some exotic wall décor with paintings, family photo gallery, ethnic wall pieces etc. This adds richness and elegance to otherwise boring walls.

  • Funishings: Curtains should match the furniture around. Any mismatch will damage the look. Bedspreads, Deewan cot covers etc should match with other interiors. They add more glamour to the room.

  • Miscellaneous:
    • If you want to have a show case at your home, then collect some good dolls and other ethnic wear which can enrich your taste. If you are travelling to any place on work or for vacation, buy something that is related to the place and bring them home to your showcase. This will definitely add to your taste of home décor.
    • Use of table runners, candle holders, wall clock, lighting, book shelves, wall units etc can add more to your dream home.

  • Fresh Flora: If you a have a patio/balcony then bring in some flower pots, bamboos etc to create sense of revival and rejuvenation. Try developing gardening skills in that little space you have.
So go ahead and do some home makeover. Create magic :) :)

Daily Statements :) :(
“God! It’s so hot out there; I am not going to come out until evening”,

“I come to office early by 8:30am”

“Man, no amount of sun block is working. I am having rashes”.

I heard someone saying in parking lot, “If you want to stop emission of carbon dioxide stop breathing for an hour.”

I smiled at the statement but started thinking about it. I tried to visualize my life style and this is how it is

Most of us have similar lifestyle. So what? Yes, we are able to afford and so we are enjoying. True, but did we ever think that these things which we claim to be cool are not cool in real sense?

Now take a look to understand what’s hot about it.

  1. We made our lifestyle so vicious that without a device we cannot function.

  2. We made the machine dominate us so badly that we forgot what we are abusing nature.

  3. We forgot to give chance for fresh air to frisk our balconies by cutting down the trees and building multi storied buildings and fast growing cities.

  4. We were so busy in development race that we forgot the fact we are tearing off the Ozone layer in the name of industrialization.

All these lack of trees, heavy industrialization, and use of numerous devices is emitting green house gases. This is the reason for increased temperatures on Earth.

God has created such a beautiful nature and gave it to human thinking that person with speech, and sense will retain nature’s beauty forever.

But I am afraid if it’s too late. Remember, “Every action has equal and opposite reaction”. So the reaction has just started.

If still have any chance to improve our situation then we should all join for this cause and follow the advice of environmentalists.

Padma

“Mile Sur Mera Tumhaara toh Sur Banee Humaara”, as a kid when I watched this song, I was amazed how that one line is being sung in 15 different languages. I could see women who wore saree not in the same way as my mother does. I saw the beautiful country side, so many music instruments and various ways of expressing the same theme. Later whenever I saw this video, it gave me the sense of how our cultural diversity and its integrity being showcased in a beautiful, crisp and pure form.

The new one!!!! I did not really understand the purpose of its making. Was it meant to represent our national integrity with a blend of old and new generations or was it just another bollywood remake music video? When I saw ARR playing the keyboard I expected it to create some good impact. But it was just a disaster.

Few questions my mind asked:

    • Can we visualize India without TajMahal? In the entire 16 mins video there is no mention of it.
    • Where is legendry Lata Mangeskar's voice? The feel that voice gives is immense and always gave goose bumps when she sings such integrity songs.
    • Where is the mention of Chandrayan? One of our bigger scientific achievements of the decade!
    • Why they added extra wordings and spoiled the tune?
    • Where is dress code and location preferences gone? We see Deepika in mini-skirt, Salman showcasing his 6-pack, Shahid with jeans and disco arrangement around him and Sonu Nigam sporting out of context look.
    • No backwaters of Kerala, no Himalayas, no tea gardens of Assam, none of the temples or pilgrimage rich events

In previous version, the ending was so excellent that you get the real feel of national anthem. The new one is no match for that. In the new one, I liked the hearing and speech impaired children contributing their part.

It was a good idea to re-launch the song but instead of concentrating on “real” India they just seemed trying hard to satisfy the vanity of each star involved in this video. The older one too had actors but they were shown as any other common man and their presence was well blended with each region and language.

I still prefer the old version and feel that the crisp 6+mins is enough to show any foreign audience how our lives are beautifully tied up together with various cultures and languages.

At least now whoever wants to recreate a classic video/play/movie should do proper ground work and try not to spoil the sentiment that old version tried to convey.

People say corporate world is very complex and finding friends in this busy, opportunist environment is nearly impossible. But in such an atmosphere, I found a friend with silver smile and golden heart. We met as colleagues and today she is my best buddy.

Work or no work- outing or weddings - timepass or leisure times, we always had our share of fun and lived every bit of life.

Here I have top 10 reasons why she is my best friend:

10. Seems like we've known each other forever
9. You tell me I don't look fat
8. You laugh at my jokes
7. We like the same Subway food
6. You'd share your last piece of choclate
5. You always understand
4. You saw my early morning face and still didnot scream
3. You made me feel better when I was low
2. Heartfully you wished good luck for me
And the #1 Reason is:
If I am lost - You will find me

Today is our last dinner @ this place as she is getting ready to move ahead in life with her life partner.

I wish her a very best of luck and happy married life.

Cheers,
Padma
